She was sworn into the Kansas Bar in 1993. She worked for the Kansas Department of Revenue and the Department of Health and Environment before joining Crow & Associates in 1995. She graduated with honors from Baker University in 1966, with a B.A. in Secondary Education with a concentration in English and Social Science. Prior to law school, Marti served on the Leavenworth City Planning Commission and the Leavenworth City Board of Zoning Appeals for 17 years, including several years as Chairperson. During her tenure, the Leavenworth City Zoning Ordinance was amended extensively and the Leavenworth City Comprehensive Plan was rewritten. She was elected and served on the Leavenworth School Board over 13 years, including four years as President. In 1986, Marti was selected as a member of the 1986 Leadership Kansas Class by the Kansas Association of Commerce and Industry. She was a member of the founding board of Leadership Leavenworth Lansing, a local leadership program at the Leavenworth-Lansing Chamber of Commerce. Marti was appointed by the Kansas Supreme Court to serve on the Kansas Continuing Legal Education Commission from 1993 until 1999 and chaired the Commission from 1997 until 1999. She has presented continuing legal education programs on military family law and Kansas legislation for the Kansas Bar Association annual meeting and the annual meeting of the Kansas Association of County Counselors. She is the author of the Military Family Law chapter in the KBA Family Law Handbook. She also served as an editor of the Washburn Law Journal and wrote an article about the Kansas divorce law that was published in the Journal in 1991. In the 1990s, she also wrote and published a series of articles in the Kansas Government Journal concerning environmental law. On November 5, 1996, Marti was elected to the Kansas House of Representatives to represent the 41st District in Leavenworth. She has been reelected to six additional terms. She has served on the Judiciary Committee for eleven years. Marti is Agenda Chairperson and a member of the leadership team for the House Democratic Caucus. During her service in the House, Marti has served as ranking Democrat on the Joint Committee on Claims Against the State and as a member of the Special Joint Committee on School Finance, a Special Committee on Tobacco Settlement Funds. She has served on subcommittees to rewrite Kansas special education law; a bill to create a state postsecondary education savings program and subcommittees on powers of attorney, guardian and conservator law and protection from abuse proceedings. In 1999, Representative Crow was one of three Kansas legislators selected to attend the Bowhay Institute fo Legislative Leadership Development program in Madison, Wisconsin. She was selected as “2005 Legislator of the Year” by the Kansas Association of Career and Technical Education. Representative Crow has served as a member of the Midwestern High-Level Radioactive Waste Transportation Project Committee and the Education Committee for the Midwestern Legislative Conference of the Council of State Governments. On March 15, 2024, the Leavenworth County Historical Society, at its Banquet held at the Riverfront Community Center, honored Past, Present, and Future Women in Leavenworth County. He then went into the Army as a Private. In 1968 he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Infantry. Mike served as a Platoon Leader with the 1st Battalion 7th Calvary of the 1st Cavalry Division (Air Mobile) in Viet Nam. He was severely disabled in a helicopter crash near the Cambodian border. Mike was hospitalized at Army and V.A. hospitals for 8 months. Senator Bob Dole was influential in Mike being transferred to the V.A. hospital in Topeka as an outpatient so that he could attend Washburn University School of Law in Topeka starting in 1970. Mike earned his Juris Doctorate in law in 1973. He practiced law for one year with a large firm in Topeka. In 1974, he established his own law firm in Leavenworth County. Shortly after the Crows moved to Leavenworth, Mike became acquainted with Honorable Arthur J. Stanley, Jr., Senior Judge, United States District for the District of Kansas. Once Judge Stanley learned that Mike had served with the 1st of the 7th Calvary (Custer's old unit), Judge Stanley offered Mike a position as his part-time Law Clerk. Judge Stanley served with the 1st of the 7th in 1916. Judge Stanley became Mike's mentor. From 1978 through 1982, Mike represented Leavenworth in the Kansas House of Representatives. He served as the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee. He also served as City Attorney for the City of Tonganoxie, Kansas for 27 years. Mike served on the First Judicial District Nominating Commission from 1996 through 2004. He is a former President of Leavenworth Bar Association. Mike is the author of, "Divorces in the Military - More Questions Than Answers", 12 Journal of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association I (1998). Mike is a longtime member of the Board of Directors of the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association and served as Treasurer in 1995. In 2007 he was presented the Kansas Trial Lawyers Association Distinguished Service Award. Mike served on the Board of Governors of the Kansas Bar Association and as Secretary, Treasurer, and Vice-President. In 2004, he was elected to a one-year term as President of the Kansas Bar Association. He has also served on the Board of Trustees of the Kansas Bar Foundation. Mike is licensed to practice law in both Kansas and Missouri. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court in the District of Kansas and the Western District of Missouri, U.S. Court of Appeals, Tenth Circuit. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. He has been practicing law for over 50 years. In 2016, he was presented the Robert K. Weary award for Exemplary Service and Commitment to the Goals of the Kansas Bar Foundation. Mike has been involved in a number of civic activities in Leavenworth County. In 2017, Mike was named the Humanitarian of the Year by the Leavenworth-Lansing Area Chamber of Commerce. Mike has been married to Marti Crow for over 56 years. Jones - Michael Jones is a lifetime resident of Kansas. He was born in Great Bend. His family lived in Osborne for three years and moved to Goodland, where he graduated from high school. Mike graduated from the University of Kansas with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 1985 and graduated from Washburn University School of Law in 1988. Mike was in private practice from 1988 to 2008. Initially, he was a solo practitioner and later was in a two-person law firm in Leavenworth from 1994-2008. During that time, he represented clients in several areas, including divorce, family law, criminal law, guardianships, child in need of care, probate, bankruptcy and juvenile. Mike joined the Leavenworth County Attorney's office in 2008. As an Assistant County Attorney, he was involved in prosecuting all types of cases handled by the office. Those included homicide, sexual assault, narcotics, traffic, violent felonies, financial and property crimes. He was the lead attorney in a number of high-profile cases that went to jury trial. Mike received a letter of commendation from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of the Inspector General for his work on the Mark Wisner trial, which resulted in convictions for multiple counts of sexual assault against veteran patients of the VA Hospital in Leavenworth. As part of his regular role with the County Attorney’s Office, Mike served as a presenter for training involving local law enforcement agencies, the Alliance Family Violence Shelter and the Leavenworth Sexual Assault Response Team. Mike served as treasurer and president of the Leavenworth County Bar Association. He was involved in organizing the annual charity golf tournament for the Bar Association. Mike lives in Lansing, with his wife, LeAnn, who is an elementary physical education teacher. They enjoy traveling to Colorado and spending time with their two sons in the mountains.
